Health, Well-being & Safety

Health, Well-being & Safety (HWS) is a newly created division made up of nine departments that are dedicated to listening, supporting, and providing UC Riverside students with helpful resources and services for your overall safety and well-being.

The vision for HWS is to be a model of excellence in higher education by providing students the best campus environment to thrive, enhance, sustain, and support their personal growth and academic goals, ultimately making a positive impact in communities throughout California, nationally, and worldwide.

The mission of the division is to raise awareness and provide students with an inclusive framework of services, resources, and programs that cultivate community and a holistic approach to the campus environment by supporting diversity and student success through an integrated culture of wellness.

UCR Values Freedom of Speech

Freedom of speech and expression are values that UCR respects and encourages. This includes opinions that challenge and encourage robust debate, action, and inquiry. The safety of our community is tandem with the right to free expression, and UCR will ensure that both are treated fairly. Please visit our new Free Speech website for more information about how UCR respects and upholds the right to free speech and expression.

Let's Do R Part

This fall, UC Riverside is welcoming many students, faculty, and staff to campus for the first time in 18 months. Each of us has a responsibility to ourselves and the UCR community to make this campus return as safe as possible. Let’s Do R Part to stop the spread of COVID-19 at UCR! Get vaccinated. Wear face coverings. Keep informed. Visit campusreturn.ucr.edu to learn more.

Basic Needs

If you are experiencing basic needs challenges, such as food insecurity, housing displacement/homelessness, or financial crisis, we encourage you to reach out to us for assistance. Every day, Highlanders just like you (both undergraduate and graduate students) take advantage of available resources like the R'Pantry — for food, hygiene products, and childcare items. In addition, we offer currently enrolled students emergency housing assistance, application assistance for CalFresh, and emergency grant support through our Economic Crisis Response Team.

Campus Advocacy, Resources & Education (CARE)

CARE is an intervention and prevention support program committed to ending sexual violence at UCR. CARE seeks to unite, inspire and cultivate a community culture of care by providing direct advocacy, resources, and prevention educational programming related to issues of sexual assault, relationship violence and stalking to students, staff, faculty, and UCR affiliates.

Clinical services include individual counseling, couples therapy, and group therapy, as well as consultations and same-day walk-ins for urgent needs. All services are free, confidential, and provided by a diverse and multiculturally competent professional staff.

Case Managers work closely with all academic and Health, Well-being & Safety departments to help students reach their goals.
